Overview

Figure 2 is a flowchart of the Route and Crash Location Process from Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and the University of Alabama (UA).

The following list is the steps in the flowchart from ALDOT and UA.

  1. ALDOT eGIS Viewer
  2. ALDOT ESRI
  3. Milepoint/Functional Class/NHS (National Highway System)/Milepost Services
  4. UA ESRI/eCrash/Safety Portal
    • UA eCrash/eCitation/eWeight/Crash Location/Safety Portal
    • Link/Node/Crash Event Services back to ALDOT ESRI (#2)

The following list is included within the flowchart image.

  1. ALDOT creates eGIS routes and supporting events (functional class, NHS, etc.)
  2. ALDOT share routes and supporting events to UA via ESRI services
  3. UA creates link (street) and node (intersection) events on top of ALDOT routes
  4. UA locates crashes on ALDOT routes based on officer entered data
  5. UA shares link, node, crash events to ALDOT via ESRI services
  6. ALDOT users access ESRI data through the internal eGIS Viewer
